Stolen Vehicle Monitoring

Stolen Vehicle Monitoring

Stolen vehicle monitoring is an efficient and proven way of keeping track of all a site’s or business’s vehicles and being automatically notified if any were to move without a detected ignition or an incorrect ignition sequence. Stolen vehicle monitoring allows for fast police response and for the live location of the vehicle to be tracked in real-time.

A Tracker will need to be purchased for every vehicle that is to be monitored and registered with the GPSBob app. The tracker can be easily fitted to the vehicle via a cigarette lighter, OBD Port or direct to the vehicle’s battery. The necessary contact details and vehicle information then need to be added to the GPSBob app, which is used in the event of a stolen vehicle. All actions taken are reported and available to view within logs displayed via the app.

Our stolen vehicle monitoring service has been through extensive testing and is fully approved by Thatcham, the UK’s motor insurers’ automotive research centre.

How Stolen Vehicle Monitoring Works

Stolen Vehicle Monitoring is an effective method in identifying when a vehicle has been stolen and it’s whereabouts. Once you have purchased and correctly installed your vehicle tracker, stolen vehicle monitoring will work as follows:

  1. In the event of an incorrect ignition sequence or should the tracker/vehicle move without detecting ignition, an alert will be raised.
  2. The alert will trigger an automated phone call to your listed contacts, in priority order, much like our keyholder response procedure with our other monitoring services.
  3. On this phone call you will be asked to confirm or deny the theft (or reject the call if a confirmation is not possible, such as being on holiday).
  4. If the theft is confirmed, you will be prompted to contact the police and obtain a Crime Reference Number.
  5. RMS are then automatically notified of the stolen vehicle and will provide the police with a unique link that allows them to access the vehicle’s information, your contact details and a map that shows the live location of the tracker/vehicle.
  6. If you fail to respond to the automated call or contact the police, RMS will contact you directly to ensure you have contacted the authorities. On request, if you fail to make the call, RMS can notify the police on your behalf.
  7. If an alert happens to be false, you or the driver can close an alert at any time when within 200 meters of the tracker/vehicle. This allows us to know that the issue has been resolved.

How Much Does Stolen Vehicle Monitoring Cost?

The total cost of stolen vehicle monitoring for a business or site will depend on how many vehicles need to be monitored. An individual tracker has to be purchased for each vehicle. This is the only upfront cost for this service and there are no subscription fees.

Each tracking device has enough SIM data to last five years. After this, or once depleted, more data can be purchased, which is a consideration for ongoing costs.

We recommend getting in touch with the RMS team, who will be able to give you an accurate cost for a site and their vehicles.

Statistics on Stolen Vehicle Monitoring

There were nearly 109,000 vehicles stolen in the UK within the last year.

Less than 28% of stolen vehicles are ever recovered.

Vehicles fitted with a tracker have a 95% recovery rate.
