Server Room Monitoring

Server Room Monitoring

Server rooms are often the central hub of a business or site. Secure rooms containing key electrical and computer infrastructure, server rooms are usually responsible for the running of a site, building and or business. Because of their importance, it’s essential that the equipment is looked after properly and the server room is kept at an ideal temperature and condition so that all the equipment works efficiently. In addition, many server rooms contain confidential data, so their security is also a priority. Therefore, server room monitoring has become a key asset to many sites and businesses.

At RMS, we can provide efficient, remote, 24/7 monitoring of site server rooms to support their continuous climate and security needs. Many factors should and can be monitored, to identify and alert for:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Water
  • Fire
  • Intrusion or tampering
  • Power failures
  • System faults

Climate Monitoring

It’s important to monitor for a variety of climate changes within server rooms as they can have disastrous impacts on a site or business. For example, a temperature rise could lead to electric fires, whereas a drop in temperature could lead to condensation build-up in equipment, as well as a rise in humidity levels.

Power Monitoring

Monitoring power usage is not only helpful for a site to manage its energy consumption, but it will also alert for potential power overloads and failures. Not only would this disrupt a site but it could also lead to site vulnerability and security breaches.

Security Monitoring

Due to the vital systems and data accessible via a server room, their security should also be monitored. RMS can monitor via motion sensors for unauthorised access, intruders and tampering.

RMS are an NSI gold approved, number 2 alarm receiving centre (ARC), meaning we are regularly audited and comply with the most stringent and latest industry standards. All our monitoring operatives are highly trained and have extensive experience monitoring server rooms.

How Does Server Room Monitoring Work?

Remote Arm/Disarm

Server room monitoring works with the use of various sensors that pick up climate, security and power triggers. These sensors are connected to our ARC which acts as our central monitoring centre. When a sensor is triggered, suggesting an issue with a site’s server room, these are the steps that take place:

  1. A signal is sent to our ARC via a cellular network.
  2. The signal is received by the monitoring operatives who look into the issue.
  3. If the issue is a system fault they will aim to fix the issue remotely, if possible. They will also check whether the alert is a false alarm, especially for security triggers.
  4. Once the issue is identified and confirmed, the monitoring operatives will quickly carry out the appropriate actions, whether that be contacting the nominated key holder, maintenance team or actioning a police call out.

How Much Does Server Room Monitoring Cost?

The cost of service room monitoring will vary from site to site. This is because there are several influencing factors that can impact the price of a monitoring service, such as the size of, and number of sensors and components that require monitoring within the server room, as well as the number of server rooms and sites.

For the most accurate costings, we recommend you talk to the RMS team. They will listen to your criteria and assess your needs, providing you with a free, no-obligation quote.
